Municipal Government
The Toledo Village Board, composed of six trustees and a village president, serve as the administrative authority for the Toledo municipal government.
The Village of Toledo employs a police force of 2 officers and is afforded fire protection services through the volunteer efforts of the Toledo Fire Department. The Village is currently classified with a fire insurance rating of 6.
Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day through Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center (a regional hospital) located 15 miles north of Toledo. The Village’s medical needs are also served through the Toledo Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Clinic, which provides modern medical diagnostic testing and routine medical care for village residents. Emergency medical ambulance transportation is provided through the village.

Community Facilities
Toledo, a community strongly tied to the historic and cultural growth of central Illinois, serves as the Cumberland County seat. A socially active community, the village can accommodate moderately sized private social functions with the largest facility having a capacity of 300 persons.
Toledo hosts a strong banking and finance industry, with the First National Bank at Toledo and the Illinois Community Bank having locations within Toledo. These locally managed, regional banks, with assets in excess of $185,000,000 are capable of assisting in any development projects requiring capital investment.
The Toledo Democrat, a locally owned newspaper, is published weekly and features news and sports coverage of interest to area residents.
The Village of Toledo is home to a vibrant religious community with six local churches, including Protestant and non-denominational Christian faiths.
The Village of Toledo provides a variety of recreational facilities, with public parks featuring tennis and basketball courts. The public also enjoys access to nearby public swimming pools and country clubs, in addition to several area lakes with swimming, boating and water sports. For the avid outdoors person, nearby Fox Ridge and Lincoln Trail State Parks offer camping, hiking, snowmobiling, walking paths and horseback riding.
The Sumpter Township Library, located on the square in downtown Toledo, affords residents with access to the latest multi-media resource materials, computers and technical services.
Education
Lake Land College, located only 20 miles northwest of the Village of Toledo, offers access to high quality, low cost higher education and workforce training programs.
Eastern Illinois University in Charleston (20 miles north-west) provides students access to educational programs leading to bachelor and masters degrees in a variety of academic programs.
